In such a fast paced world, it’s not a rare thing to hear someone say that they “don’t have time” to do something.

There are 168 hours in a week.  We spend perhaps 50 hours sleeping, and work may take about 48 hours if we include travel time.  There is still a remaining 70 hours which may be spent eating, something which again takes up only 7 hours.  With personal care and bathing, we may spend about 5 hours a week. That leaves us 58 hours in total.  So what happens with that time?

By prioritising your time and work balance to ensure that tasks are being completed, chances are that you will find that the balance is far easier to understand where you need to devote more time, and things which can be

completed quickly and easily.

Many of us struggle with the arrangement of our day, the order in which we need to complete tasks, and unnecessary time spent making up for mistakes where we have forgotten to complete something. The most beneficial solution is to make a note of everything that you need to do. For every single day. Get a notepad, a diary or a planner and write down every last detail of what you need to do and how long it will take. How long will that task take, how long will be spent at that meeting, will it take a while to get there, and what needs doing afterwards?

Keep track of the little things and more time can then be spent on the big tasks, and ensuring that they are given the priority that is necessary. Try to resist completing the trivial tasks that don’t really need to be completed. If a big job is being put off, then break it down into chunks that are easier to manage. Work out when it needs to be completed by and how long it will take. By spending about half an hour a day until the deadline, it can be far more productive than spending a whole day on a project without results.

By working well at work, then results may be seen elsewhere, at home and during your own leisure time. You don’t feel guilty for spending time to yourself, because you know that its time that has been allocated; when its time to work again then those tasks will be completed, but right now its your time!

A small investment in items such as a diary or a PDA can work well to structure your day to complete as much as necessary in the time allocated. These items can be found at Work Life Home along with everything else you need to run a successful business!
